Adrenal Fatigue is experienced by people who are physically, mentally and/or emotionally fatigued.
Many of us have experienced it, getting home from work, sitting down and thinking ok it’s time to get up and make dinner, but somehow you just can’t get off the couch.
Chronic Fatigue is a medical condition that affects millions world wide. We live in a society whereby we are sleep deprived, work too hard, and sometimes exercise too hard. We are nutritionally deficient and live off caffeine and use sugar as a pick-me-up. When fatigue becomes chronic, there is often one or more stealth viral infection present and these need to be treated as well. Effective digestion is paramount, to absorb the nutrients from our food, which gives us physical and mental energy.
Adrenal Glands
The adrenal glands sit at the top of the kidneys. They produce a hormone called cortisol and this affects our energy. Cortisol is of course our flight or flight mechanism. Cortisol is meant to be high in the morning and lower in the late afternoon/evening. However often it is the other way around. We are tired, but wired in the evening and struggle to get out of bed in the morning.
The adrenals may also fail to produce enough aldosterone—a steroid hormone important to potassium, sodium, and blood pressure regulation and adrenal fatigue can be a result. Salivary testing can quickly ascertain whether or not this is the case.
